Karl Erickson is an artist whose interests include psychedelia, language, transcendental experiences, and counter-cultures throughout the ages. His primary media are video, posters, collage and latch-hook rugs and pillows. Recent exhibitions include "Magnificent Bastards: The Art of War" at High Energy Constructs, Street Signs and Solar Ovens at the Craft and Folk Art Museum in Los Angeles, Louis Morris at the Atlanta Contemporary Art Center, and Interstellar Low Ways at the Hyde Park Art Center in Chicago. With artist Robby Herbst, Erickson makes psychedelic liquid light shows. Recent performances have taken place at High Energy Constructs, the LA Country Fair, Spaceland, and Machine Project.

The collages presented here are part of new series of work combining DIY flyer aesthetics with motivational sloganeering designed to encourage the viewer to become a far out motherfucker. The drawings are from an exhibition with Andrew Falkowski entitled: "Magnificent Bastards: The Art of War" at High Energy Constructs. The show examined, through the lens of TV sitcoms the absurdity of being an artist in a time of war, the representation of war and the devastating effect it has on us as people as well as on our visual understanding of the world around us.

Erickson received his MFA from CalArts and his BFA from Wayne State University in Detroit, MI. He has also written about art, literature, music and sports for magazines such as Xtra, Flash Art, New Art Examiner and Artnet. Erickson is also the co-founder and editor of the late, great Cakewalk magazine.
